A day after a 5.2-magnitude earthquake hit Ilocos Norte, another quake jolted the Philippines early Friday, March 11, 2011.
The 5.1-magnitude intermediate quake was felt at 3:06 a.m., with 15 kilometers east of Looc town, Occidental Mindoro as epicenter. It has a depth of 101 kilometers, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The Philippines lies in the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area where continental plates collide producing frequent earthquakes and volcanic activities.
